SBQ: Thread Clippings
I’m an avid reader of Stitching Blogger’s Questions, but I think this is the first time I’ve answered one. This week, the question is:
What do you do to your thread clippings? Do you just scrap them or do you use them in something else?
Well, for me it depends on the length of the clipping. If it’s shorter than is usable — i.e. I can get less than three stitches out of it — then I bin it. If it’s longer than that, I wind it around the original thread so that I know what colour it is (i.e. a short piece of DMC 666 ["Christmas Red", to you non-stitchers out there] will get wrapped around the remainder of the thread skein) and store it until I come to use it. I tend to do this with every colour possible, except DMC 310 (black), which I always keep no matter the length — black is always, always useful. :-)
Oooh, thank you “Santa” … :)
This morning’s mail brought a late Christmas/Yule card with it, and a surprise gift: four skeins of Waterlilies cross-stitch thread, in shades #52 (Marigold), #93 (Painted Desert), #86 (Tahiti) and #173 (Redwood). They are gorgeous — I cannot believe the colours! Amazing! :)
All of this, though, signed from “Santa”.
So … Whomever you are (and hoping that you frequent my blog, ’cause if you don’t I have no idea where you got my address from!)… Thank you! *hugs*
Work and Rest…
Today has been busy, but that’s only because I’ve been working hard at whittling the to-do list down a bit more. Another major item off the list, and a whole host of minor ones added to it, for the back-end of the week. Joy and delight — if I ever get to the end of the list with nothing more to add, it’ll be a miracle!
Looking at my datebook, the next few weeks are set to be busy, bit a lot of it should be enjoyable so I don’t mind too much. I’m making sure I take plenty of time for personal rest and relaxation, and I’m enjoying a new cross stitch project too. (Oh, and remember a while back I posted about the cross stitch kits that had gone MIA? I found them the other day!)
And now… Time for food! :)
Crafty Thoughts…
I remembered that somewhere I had a box of cross stitch kits — some part-complete, others unopened. I used to really enjoy cross stitch and can’t really recall why I stopped stitching; in any case, I had a hunt around the other day and initially found a few kits.
So, I’m currently working on Autumn (which is one of a set of four seasonal pieces; I don’t have the others). I’m also doing a free “quick stitch” kit from the front of The World of Cross Stitch magazine; it’s a delightfully dinky Yuletide Lickle Ted design.
This morning, I found the really big box of kits, threads and aida. One of the things that has really pissed me off is that, when I came to examine the box’s contents, I found that two kits have gone MIA. They’re both kits that I’d almost completed a while back, and I knew they were around somewhere. The idea was to finish them at some point, but I can’t find them. One is Charlie Is Born, the first in the Charlie Dragon series (and yes, I have the other three, unopened; the idea was to stitch them all, frame and hang around the house).
The other missing kit is The Sorceress, which I was also going to frame. There’s a place waiting for it above my altar. I think I was going to modify the chart for that one, though, and give her red hair :p
I’m miffed that I can’t find them, but I suppose they’ll turn up at some point. However, I did find another partially-finished kit, entitled Giants of the Sea. I last looked at this particular kit in 2003 so it’ll be a good one to return to once I’ve finished those I’m currently stitching.
